Children's Pack Lunches

When it comes to my children’s packed lunches, every day presents a problem. One day they like ham sandwiches the next day the mere sight of anything sandwich-like makes them physically heave as though I’ve just asked them to do a bush tucker trial.

Its official – I have the pickiest kids on the planet and finding a food combination that is:
(a) acceptable to them and
(b) acceptable to the close scrutiny of the school dinner ladies is often exhausting and also a total pain in the backside.

Since I started working at Chiropractic First I have changed my diet drastically – this is not only to fit in with the ethos of the business but also because basically my eating habits were pretty terrible. I now avoid the biggest culprits of bloating and weight gain such as bread, pasta and potatoes and stick to lots of vegetables, lots of fruit and plenty of protein. I have even purchased a large bag of quinoa this week in my quest to find the perfect eating plan.

That’s all well and good as far as I’m concerned – but try sneaking any of this into a child’s pack – up box and it is asking for trouble. Gavin has challenged me to make small changes to Maisie and Millie’s lunches over the next few weeks. Millie suffers with terrible bloating and constipation and I suspect has a mild case of IBS. This is not helped by the fact that her favourite food is pasta salad, spaghetti bolognese or anything pasta related. Maisie will only eat sandwiches and unhealthy snacks such as cheese, yoghurt and Freddo chocolate bars.

Challenge Accepted!

Gav has suggested roasted veg and meat kebab, egg salads, tropical cucumber salad – basically everything my children loathe!!!

Finding an alternative to bread and pasta that is filling, nutritious and appealing to a
3yr old and a 7yr old is not an easy task. So Monday is going to be the start of my healthy eating campaign of terror on my two girls. Wish me luck and I will let everyone know what happens (assuming they don’t hatch a revenge attack and poison my food in the meantime!!!)
