Imagine if you will two cars, both built in the same way at the same time.
One car is driven around town very carefully, never going over the speed limit. It’s cleaned and waxed every other day. Serviced at regular intervals – the oil changed and only the best fuel is used. The engine is tuned and tweaked and even the slightest strange knocks or bumps coming from the engine are dealt with swiftly. This car is the owners pride and joy, every night it is locked safely in a garage.
The other car is driven recklessly, heavy revving of the engine, coming to a stop in a cloud of blue smoke. This car has never seen a garage – a mechanic has never had the bonnet open. The oil never changed. This car is just a means of getting from A to B, this car is parked out on the street at all times, exposed to the elements and everything it can through at it.
Visualise how those two cars would look after 10 years of use like this. One will run like a dream, never missing a beat. The other would probably be rusty, make clouds of smoke and break down at regular intervals.
Yet these two cars were both built at the same time, using the same parts. The difference between the cars has been the drivers and how they have taken care of their vehicles. It really isn't a surprise that if you don’t look after your car that it would break down. We all know how to prevent our car from breaking down, we service our cars, change the oil regularly, drive them sensibly and make sure the right fuel is put in.
There is a vehicle that is far more important than your car though. Your body is the most important vehicle you will every own. It can suffer from breakdowns, but it is far less likely to suffer with a failure is you maintain it in the right way.
- PUT THE RIGHT FUEL IN
Just like a petrol car won’t run on diesel, your body won’t function correctly if you don’t put the right fuel in. Our body is designed to operate on fruit, vegetables and meat. A good easy rule of thumb is if it has a barcode it isn’t food.
- DON’T LET IT RUST AND SEIZE
Car left in the garage and never run will eventually seize up. Your body is the same. The human body is designed for movement, even if it is just walking 30 minutes everyday. 30 minutes walking everyday makes a huge difference to how your body will feel.
- 10,000 MILE SERVICE
In a car not changing the oil, air filters, tyres etc will soon lead to a problem. Our body hasn't got interchangeable parts so looking after the ones you've got is far more important. That is why visiting your dentist, optician and chiropractor is critical. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.
